The NYS Department of Civil Service has announced the examination, open to all qualified individuals, for Coastal Resources Specialist 1. These positions exist in the New York State Department of State. The written test will be held January 10, 2009. Applications must be submitted or postmarked by December 08, 2008.

Governor David A. Paterson and New York Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez today announced more than $23.3 million in funding from the State Environmental Protection Fund’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program for 88 projects across New York State. These awards cover a variety of planning, design and construction projects that focus on economic, community, environmental and recreational improvements, reinforcing Governor Paterson’s commitment to improving local communities and the environment. With these awards, 1,060 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grants have been awarded through the Department of State since 1994, totaling more than $145.3 million. This year's request for applications issued by the Department of State drew 110 responses.

Governor David A. Paterson and Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez announced today the Brownfields Smart Growth Spotlight Communities Initiative. This initiative links communities participating in the state’s Brownfield Opportunity Areas (BOA) Program with the Governor’s Smart Growth Cabinet. This state-local partnership will demonstrate how existing state programs can support and complement local efforts to redevelop brownfields and simultaneously achieve neighborhood revitalization and smart growth objectives.
