NOAA is also the source of federal Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program .  The program provides state and local governments with matching funds to purchase significant coastal and estuarine lands, or conservation easements on such lands, from willing sellers.  The program is coordinated at the state level in New York by the Department of State. 

New York’s CELCP acquisition priorities are established in its CELCP plan, a component of the State’s 2009 Open Space Conservation Plan .  Each CELCP funding cycle the Department solicits potential acquisition projects through a state-wide            Request for Responses.  Since 2002, New York State has received more than $13 million in federal CELCP funds for the acquisition of over 500 acres of sensitive coastal habitats in the State

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) administers a variety of important natural resource protection and land management grant programs, including Coastal Wetland Conservation Grants, North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) grants, and Endangered Species Grants. USFWS also assists the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation with various additional grant programs.

The National Park Service (NPS) administers several grant programs focused on cultural resources and historic preservation, as well as the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and facilities, and stimulate non-federal investments in recreation resources.
