Improving Your Community

All across New York State, communities are searching for ways to revitalize their economy, environment and quality of life. To help communities achieve this goal the Division of Coastal Resources is producing a series of multimedia packages designed to provide readily accessible information on how to protect, restore and revitalize New York’s communities and their coasts and waterways.

The package includes this website and accompanying videos and guidebooks. It will provide guidance on how to improve your community – sharing lessons learned, specific techniques that have worked, sources of information and assistance, and the experiences of communities that have succeeded.

Two components of this package have been produced so far. One provides information on "Making the Most of Your Waterfront" and shows how enhancing your waterfront can help revitalize communities. The second looks at the issues related to the reuse of abandoned buildings, seeing these neglected resources as "Opportunities Waiting to Happen" that can also help revitalize communities.

This multi-media package will be supplemented by similar packages of guidance that focus in more detail on specific community issues.
